From Japanese furniture to custom desigh furniture
Shizuoka furniture is said to have originated from lacqure
ware. In the Edo period, when the Sengen Shrine was being built,
carpenters from all parts of Japan specializing in building shirines,
temples and cabinets, gathered in Shizuoka. Their artisanship
was nurtured and enriched with the lacquer ware techniques.
Since the late 1950's, closets, sideboards, chairs, tables and
other kinds of furnituire have been produced in Shizuoka. Today
the furniture industry in Shizuoka is coming one step closer to
the customer and in trying to meet their needs by starting to
produce "custom desighed" furniture.
