The
municipal area of Shizuoka City is 1,146 square kilometers, which
is the second largest in Japan.
Located almost in the geographic center of Japan and amidst the
natural scenic beauty, the area features the 3,000 meter Japanese
Alps to the north, the calm Suruga Bay to the south and the Abe
River, which flows through the center of the region. It is also
the home of Japan's highest mountain, the renowned Mt. Fuji.
The population of Shizuoka City is over 470,000. It is located
between the two large economic blocs of east and west Japan. Shizuoka
is not only the capital but also the core city of Shizuoka Prefectuire.
The central control functions of politics, economics, education,
culture and information are concentrated here in the large urban
area of central Shizuoka.
Its mild climate with in an average annual temperature of 17℃
has made Shizuoka an advantageous place to live in Japan since it's
beginning.
Its ideal location along the Pacific Coast line has made it a
prosperous trading city throughout the country's history.
